Byfield

Q is the future. Trust the plan!
Just before the commencement of Kopitar’s final contract season, I believe he will hand the C over to Q, and act as a steward of sorts to help Q navigate through his first season as the new captain of the Los Angeles Kings.

Maybe for a later discussion but why not now. Does Q get a bridge contract next year or a long term deal

Time to resort to voodoo:

Pretty sure the cap is going to dictate a bridge deal for him, but I don't think anyone is scared of giving him his full 8 if he wants it at anything that will fit under the cap for next year. He's very well aligned for a 2 year deal and can then hit his 8 before the next CBA is signed (or if there is unrest for the start of that season do the signing bonus on july 1 and 1 million salary prior to the sept 15th deadline).

The smartest move possible. Probably 2 years 10M would be my guess. He bets on himself and cashes in when the cap goes up and Kopi is retired.

I can see a aav of anything between 5-7 for the 2 and then anything between 10-13 if he arcs right
Agreed. Probably dreaming, but 2 years @ $5.5 would put him in line with Kempe and Danault which seems about right. Both are likely underpaid in the current market though so perhaps $6.5 makes sense.

Pretty obvious now that Byfield hit a wall back in March. He’s never played this many minutes in a season as a pro and it’s showing on the ice.

This season he’s played over 1,200 total minutes of ice time. Last year he played about 750. Nearly a 70% increase.

Yep, I also think he is injured. You can see it after a board battle, he pauses and catches his breathe. He is either hurting, out of gas... or both.

He needs to get back to basics and shoot. He passes so many opportunities up.
If Kopi sits out again I’d like to see QB at Center. Put him between two grinders and let him worrying about getting to the front of the net 5 on 5. When he’s next to Kopi and Kempe he rarely finds himself in front of the goal mouth. Put between Thomas and Laf let them do the dirty work.

Did you hear his interview tonight where he talked about adjusting to playing wing teaching him to grind out board battles and that was new for him? I think they're developing him perfectly. He can go back to center when his game is fully established. He's going to be a Kopi like beast for the next 15 years.

Missed that but I’ll check it out. All the work he’s done for the last three years and the time he’s spent next to Kopi will serve his career well. He’s matured so much a player and a young man since his draft day. Despite the dry spell over the last month his game looks like a true franchise forward. A long playoff run this year would be nice.

Watching the Oilers highlights, win or lose, I can't help but feel they'll be giving us the bum's rush out of the competition again this year. Watching the Kings highlights, win or lose, I don't see our $8.5 mill wunderkind making any kind of difference there either. On both counts I sincerely hope to be proven completely wrong.

At this point, my only shot at winning is an empty net goal, and if it’s gonna happen, it’s gonna probably be am empty net goal with less that 30 seconds to play against Chicago.
