...and I read somewhere that we moved Young to the outfield because we didn't have enough outfield prospects and too many middle infield prospects. I don't think he was ever the best fielder, but his defensive states seemed to improve each season before the move to the outfield.

I don't like any of our 2B options. I don't think Abreu or Delwyn will be anything special

Athletic third basemen would have no problem playing second. Guys like Figgins, Wright, Nomar (in his prime) would be able to make the transition relatively pretty easy. If LaRoche was drafted as a shortstop then my guess would be that he would be able to make the transition. But a transition like that for a prospect/rookie would most likely require at least another year in AAA. I don't see that happening. And learning the postion in spring training won't cut it.

Actually, Figgins is a second baseman playing out of position.

Frank McCourt in the Boston Globe

"I think we're in good position right now," McCourt said. "We don't have to make a deal. We made the biggest move we needed to make in signing Joe."

That would be Joe Torre, who will neither hit nor pitch next season, but will earn more than $4 million as the Dodgers' new manager.

"I don't anticipate any nonsense in that clubhouse," McCourt said. "(Torre) gives us instant credibility and we're thrilled to have him."

At his age, he'd be the perfect starting LF for the Giants.

You know...I think McCourt may not be a looney as everyone thinks he is. The added power we seek can come from full seasons on Kemp, LaRoche and Loney. I think he is probably looking at the success Arizona had last year with the kids they stuck with. He probably feels the biggest difference is that they had a unified clubhouse, and he sees Torre making that happen here.

It may not be a veteran team, but a lineup of...

    Furcal
    Pierre
    Loney
    Kemp
    Martin
    Ethier
    LaRoche
    Abreu/Young

...Would be a lot of fun to watch! Once you get past Furcall and Pierre, Loney, Kemp, Martin, Ethier and LaRoche have 20+ homerun potential.

I was never high on Riggs. Joe Thurston on the other hand... :(
