Most likely so that the NHL can put together its own list of prospect rankings based on all the teams' submissions in order to determine which prospects are most likely to be first-round picks to be invited to the draft proceedings. This is done with the aim of having to avoid draftees wait too long to have their names called.

I thought that referenced the combine, they brought in all the players that the teams wanted to look at.

On a side note, is Josh Ho-Sang actually very good and loud, or just loud?

The curious case of controversial NHL prospect Joshua Ho-Sang | SIMMONS | Hockey

I don't want this to get off too far but I really can't tell if he's as good as the talk or what.

    I think he's a non-starter for Lombardi.

He certainly sounds like a non-starter for Lombardi, then again last years Mr Irrelevant used to be the top ranked prospect so it's not like he's unwilling to work with talent.

More to the point is I have no idea if this kids is as good as he thinks he is. I know the world teams can be political but they aren't usually suicidal about leaving off talent. Is this all just self promotion or is the kid actually any good?

My guess is that he is really good at this point in his development.

The article makes it clear that he was better or at least as good as Connor McDavid, who 2-3 years ago was being hyped as a generational "crosby-esque" talent (Edit: And is still 99.999% the first overall pick in next year's draft), that's pretty good . So yeah, think of this as Patrick O'sullivan but with Eric Kane in Winnipeg issues instead of parental ones.

That doesn't hold up though, if he's Connor McDavid good he's top 5 material. Patty O was skilled but nobody was saying he was as good as Eric Staal or anything. Anyhow if he's as good as he thinks he is I hope he keeps his **** together.

I disagree. If I recall correctly I believe Patty O was clearly one of, if not, the most talented player in his draft.

"There’s the heartbreaking freefall in the 2003 Entry Draft, where a top-five talent drops to 56th pick, partly due to concerns about the mental and emotional trauma inflicted by an abusive father.

But then, there’s the Minnesota Wild swooping in to save the day and a hockey god descending with words of encouragement.

There’s scoring the winning goal to clinch the USA’s first-ever World Junior Championship gold medal in 2004.

There’s torching the AHL with 47 goals as a 20-year-old to win the Dudley Garrett Award for best rookie in 2006.

There’s being traded to the Los Angeles Kings that summer for world-class playmaker, Pavol Demitra.

There’s scoring 22 goals in 2008 in his second NHL season, poised to cap a Hollywood story by becoming a leading man for LA’s young, rising Kings."

Just because he's connor David good now doesn't mean he has the right mental make up to be Connor David good as a pro.

EDIT: and so yes, actually. Given that Staal went #2 and Patty O was a "top-5 talent", that's close enough for me. Additionally, I wasn't trying to say it was a perfect analogy but I think it's about as close as you're gonna get as far as "has all the skills in the world, but might not have the right mental make up to actually put those skills to use properly at the NHL level"

Just finished watching the NHL Network's "Mock Draft," and they picked Brendan Lemieux, left winger from the Barrie Colts as the Kings' pick. Yes, Claude Lemieux's son. They said he's like his dad and Brownie.Lots "sons of former NHLers" in this draft.

Oh, they picked Ryan MacInnis, son of Al, to go to the Quacks.

Thanks for this thread. Been doing my homework for tomorrow's draft.

First off his size is not something that DL looks for nor does it fit into the Kings system. I have no doubt the kid has talent of a very high level but he scares the traditional NHL to death. I read something today that some GMs are worried he could become an artist or big time dancer! Seems like a Maple Leaf, Panther or Canucks kind of pick ... I wish him luck though as you hate to see talent wasted.
