Taylor's five-game win streak is a first for the team this season. Last year, during the best season in Monarchs history, only once did Jason LaBarbera (now the Kings' number one) win five straight.
Taylor's accomplishments did not go unnoticed and yesterday the 21-year-old was named a AHL player of the week.
"I'm flattered that I even got chosen," said Taylor, who began the year as the reserve backup goaltender in Manchester, if there is such a thing. That's the backup to the backup. In other words, Taylor had little to no chance of playing as the third goalie here (and sixth or seventh in the organization). The Kings came up empty looking for somewhere in the ECHL to park the second-year pro Taylor. He since has made the most of his opportunity.
"I've made it tough for them to make decisions," said Taylor. "I know the situation. I know how hockey works ... I knew Cloutier was coming back and I knew I had to make it tougher on them."
The biggest question is will he be able to keep his shutout streak alive on Friday.
Here's something from the veteran Dan Cloutier. This should squander any rumors that Dan is only out for himself. Doing this shows respect and honor to his position and place with the Kings. Talk about your veteran moves.

Now the Monarchs have three healthy goaltenders again in the $3.1 million Cloutier, Taylor and rookie Erik Ersberg. For his part, Cloutier said he has been ready to play for weeks now. And on the night Taylor's third shutout Morris went to Cloutier and was going to give Cloutier the start. But the 31-year-old veteran deferred to Taylor. Taylor's streaks remain alive and well.
Here's something for the Tukonen fans.
Quote:
"He's been playing like he's 10-feet tall and bulletproof. He's been extremely hard on the boards. That's exactly what we're looking for out of him." Morris on 21-year-old right wing Lauri Tukonen, the Kings' first round pick, 11th overall in 2004.
Could be that we might see some of the Tuk-Mister before the end of the season.
Props to Cloutier for giving Taylor the playing time he deserves.
I'm not surprised that coach Morris went to give Cloutier the start... since the Monarchs ARE part of the Kings organization and he's 1st priority with the big contract and everything.
But again, Cloutier shows that he has great character and knows a hot goalie in Taylor and is letting him play.
It's always great to hear that this prospect or that is doing well. Even more so when it is one of your favorites. Wishing and hoping the Kings bring up Tuk real soon. Then he can put to rest all the negative crap that some posters have printed on him. Like they have him figured out...Must be some scumming Ducks Posters.
