For Brad Stuart, going from worst to first at this time of year means a lot to any hockey player.
The league-leading Red Wings acquired the veteran defenseman from the Los Angeles Kings at the NHL’s trade deadline on Tuesday.
Stuart practiced Thursday with his new teammates at Joe Louis Arena, and met with the Detroit media afterwards.
“When you think about it, (the Kings are) in last place, and I'm sitting here today with the team in first place,” Stuart said. “You can't really do any better than that, so I'm excited.
From a professional standpoint, Stuart said accepting the move to Hockeytown will come easy. It’s the family situation that likely will cause some sleepless nights.
“My wife's pregnant, so there's going to be a little bit of anxiety as far s that goes, but they're excited for me as well,” Stuart said. “This is a great opportunity for myself, hopefully things go well, and we'll see what happens in the future. There's two sides to it, they're excited for me, in a hockey aspect, but it is tough a little bit, but they'll be out to visit, so it'll all work out.”
Last year he was far from his best on the Bruins and refused an extension to which the story was that his wife wanted to be in Cali, that's why the rumors were so strong of him coming to LA even then.
So he goes to his hometown Flames, then doesnt re-sign there. He gets his wish to come to LA and now he's happy to go to Detroit even though his wife is pregnant??
It will be interesting who he signs with this offseason again....

I'll wager he makes the Kings and us fans proud by reupping w/ LA after the Wings are ousted in the 1st round. OOhh Baby!

Of course he is going to say he is happy to be there. Unless an athlete has refused the trade, have you ever seen an athlete mention they weren't happy to be on their new team?
Think about it...they don't want to burn the fans of their new team (if it is a temporary stop or not.
I am sure if you looked up the news blurps from every other traded player they all said they were happy to be with their new team

Hey, at least he would shoot (ALL the time) and would rarely be blocked like Vish-Blocksky! Ahhh....see ya, suckie! You may want to die your hair brown so you don't get lost in the Detroit snow!
Not sure if he will even be offered a contract with the Wings next year, it will depend on how he does in the playoffs. But I found this to be quite interesting...
Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said he will wait until after the season before deciding whether to offer Stuart a new contract. Stuart had some contract talks with the Kings earlier this season.
"The message I kind of sensed was they don't expect to be a real good contender for three, four, five years," Stuart said. "I want to be on a team that has a chance to win now and in the future."

I also read he had a foot injury early in the season and that was hurting his play early on?
The bright side for Stuart is that he will me able to make a little more cash this year with the playoff money. The downside is that it will be probably stolen in Detroit!
