23. Los Angeles Kings – Grade: D+: You get the feeling GM Dean Lombardi would have liked to unload more than defenseman Brad Stuart and minor-league goalie J.S. Aubin, but there were no takers for what Lombardi was dangling. At least he managed to stockpile three draft picks. It’s not much, but it’s a start.
I think he deserves a little more credit especially if you throw in the Modry trade. Thornton and Blake both had No-Trade Clauses, which are his fault in the first place but it is not like the players made it any easier on him. All these veterans will be gone in the offseason and Lombardi has a lot of ammunition this draft. He has said all along that he is stockpiling prospects and picks for future trades and deals and that only a few select prospects will be developed for the actual team. With our core of young players I think Lombardi is on the right track.

On if the Adam Foote deal affected his dealings with Colorado: ``It did affect Colorado's ability to make a legitimate offer, probably.''
and the Thornton deal:
Quote:
On attempts to move Thornton: ``Thortie had a no-trade, don’t forget. He wanted to go to four teams that he thought had a legitimate chance to win the Cup. We tried to accommodate him. We were close on one team but then they did a big deal that kind of got blocked and crowded him.''
I am pretty sure that the Thornton deal was with Dallas as he was with them when they won the Stanley Cup.
