Shootout Verdict Goes In Favor Of Manchester
Three Monarchs score on Glass for shootout win

BINGHAMTON, NY – Goaltender Daniel Taylor snubbed three of four shootout snipers to give the Manchester Monarchs their second consecutive win, a 3-2 shootout victory over the Binghamton Senators in front of 4,710 fans at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday night.

Manchester (17-16-4-2) moves into fifth place in the Atlantic Division with 40 points. Binghamton (17-16-4-3) is ranked fifth in the East Division with 41 points.

Monarchs center David Meckler, right wing Teddy Purcell and center Trevor Lewis score in the shootout against goaltender Jeff Glass as Taylor denied all of Binghamton's shooters except center Ilya Zubov.

The Monarchs doubled up the Senators in both shots, 12-to-6, and goals, 1-0, in the first period. Center Brady Murray deflected a shot off of Glass' skate for his fourth tally of the season at 14:42 of the opening frame. Defenseman Peter Harrold's shot from the point hit off of Glass, popped up in the air and fell lifeless in the middle of the crease behind the netminder. Murray came charging in with several Binghamton players and jammed the puck off of Glass for the 1-0 lead. Defenseman Drew Bagnall earned an assist on the goal.

The Senators evened the contest at 1-1 at the 44-second mark of the middle frame with defenseman Brian Lee's second tally of the season. Skating on the power play, defenseman Lawrence Nycholat shared the puck along the points with his blueliner partner. Lee cradled the puck at the right point and ripped a slap shot off of Monarchs defenseman Harrold's stick that redirected past Taylor. Center Alexander Nikulin collected an assist on the tying tally.

Purcell scored his 13th goal of the season to give the Monarchs the one goal lead again at 15:15 of the second period. On the power play, left wing Matt Moulson dug the puck off the end boards and sent it to Harrold at the center point. Harrold found Purcell at the left face-off dot for a one-timer that soared into the top right corner of the Senators net.

Skating down a man, Binghamton took advantage of a 2-on-1 breakaway with Lewis as the only Monarchs player back. Center Justin Mapletoft carried the puck down the left wing and fired a wrist shot into the top left corner of the net for the unassisted shorthanded goal that brought the game to 2-2.

Taylor earned the shootout victory with 26 saves on 28 shots. Glass took the shootout loss with 28 saves.

Manchester went 1-for-7 on the power play. Binghamton was also 1-for-8 with the man advantage.
