The Los Angeles Kings may have hosted the Dallas Stars at Staples Center on Saturday, but the true royalty of the day was the Santa Clarita Valley.
It was the perfect setting to celebrate Santa Clarita Day, with the Stars representing the SCV's cowboy roots and the Kings representing the heart and valor that firefighters and residents found while fighting the October fires.
Nearly 200 Kings fans from the SCV traveled to the Staples Center in Downtown L.A. to celebrate their triumph in the face of disaster.
To commemorate the event, representatives of the Kings, in conjunction with the Santa Clarita Valley Disaster Coalition, made a $1,000 donation to provide humanitarian relief assistance in crisis situations. The Coalition set up the Santa Clarita Day fundraiser with the Kings as part an ongoing relationship between both organizations.
"This is a great, great benefit for the City of Santa Clarita, particularly for those who had to deal with disaster and the fire victims," said Santa Clarita Mayor Bob Kellar, who was at the game to accept the Kings' donation. "We really appreciate the Kings coming forward."
