Halfway through the third period Tuesday, Edmonton Oilers coach Craig MacTavish hung his head and closed his eyes as he stood behind his players.
If MacTavish was in silent prayer, asking for a stirring rally, the good man up above wasn't listening.
The Oilers, after four straight wins on their homestand to move to .500, came out very slowly, had some guys whose heads or legs weren't into it, and fell 3-1 to the Los Angeles Kings at Rexall Place.
Now, the Oilers head out on a five-game road trip before a stoppage for the all-star game, their momentum short-circuited.
Patrick O'Sullivan, Dustin Brown and Lubomir Visnovsky, on a third-period power play, scored for the Kings, who hold down the last spot in the Western Conference but have now won three straight games.
