Murray nets his first goal against Hartford in Manchester win

HARTFORD, CT – Goaltender Jonathan Quick stopped 37 of 38 shots to lift the Manchester Monarchs over the Hartford Wolfpack 2-1 at the XL Center Veterans’ Memorial Coliseum in front of 4,565 fans on Saturday night.

Manchester (26-26-4-4) is in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with 60 points. Hartford (37-16-2-6) is in second place in the Atlantic Division with 82 points.

The deciding goal was scored at 6:27 in the final frame of the contest. Left wing Paul Crosty ripped a shot from the point which was knocked down by Wolfpack netminder David LeNeveu. Left wing Matt Moulson was camped in front of the net to slap the rebound into the back of the basket. Right wing Teddy Purcell was also in on the lamp lighter as he earned the second assist on the goal.

The Monarchs started the scoring at 4:39 in the first period with center Brady Murray’s first red lighter against the Wolfpack this season. Center Marc-Andre Cliche skated behind the left of the Wolfpack’s cage and fed Murray the puck. Murray was waiting patiently and tipped the disc over the glove of LeNeveu. Defenseman Patrik Hersley was credited with the second assist on the goal.

After a slashing penalty from Crosty the Wolfpack evened the score at one. At 18:03 in the first period defenseman Andrew Hutchinson sent a drive from the left circle which was tipped by Monarchs defenseman Richard Petiot’s skate and redirected toward Quick. Quick made the save but the puck remained in the crease where left wing Dane Byers forced it into the back of the net for his 19th goal of the season.

Quick tallied the victory for the Monarchs with 37 saves on 38 shots. LeNeveu took the loss with 30 saves on 32 shots.

Manchester went 0-for-3 on the power play. Hartford was 1-for-7 with the man advantage.

The Monarchs return to the Verizon Wireless Arena for a 4:05 p.m. game with the Springfield Falcons on Sunday, March 2.
