PLAYOFF PREVIEW? Or perfunctory competition?
Take your pick. The regular-season curtain comes down for the Monarchs with a pair of rather meaningless games (at least for Manchester) Friday at the Providence Bruins and Saturday in Verizon Wireless Arena with Providence again. Both start at 7:05 p.m.
The games will have no bearing on the previously determined Providence-Manchester playoff matchup. That best-of-seven Atlantic Division semifinal series opens next Wednesday at Providence at 7:05 p.m. Providence needs another victory to gain the most points in the league and secure home ice throughout the Calder Cup playoffs. So maybe this weekend means something to the Bruins. Maybe not.
