Rob Blake, still playing 22 minutes of NHL defence a game at age 38, is a lot more interested in common sense than myths.
For starters, that meant while he would have preferred to see his Los Angeles Kings win it all last season rather than the cross-town rival Anaheim Ducks, having a southern California squad hoist the Stanley Cup erased forever the notion life was just too warm and sunny on the West Coast to grow a hockey champion.
"I'm not sure anyone ever really believed it," said Blake in a telephone interview. "It was just a matter of getting the right team."
