The Providence Bruins defeated the Manchester Monarchs 6-4 Wednesday evening at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Jeff Hoggan, Pascal Pelletier and two goals each from Matt Hendricks and Aaron Slattengren. The 38-10-2-1 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin’ Donuts Center Friday for Nate Thompson Bobblehead Night against the Portland Pirates at 7:05 p.m. Providence remains eight points ahead of the second place Hartford Wolf Pack.
The P-Bruins took the lead only 46 seconds into the game. Martins Karsums took a shot on the net and Monarchs goaltender Jean-Sebastien Aubin made the save. The rebound went to Sean Curry who took a shot from just inside the blue line and once again, Aubin came up with the save. With the puck loose in front of the net the P-Bruins Hendricks pushed the puck past Aubin and into the net for his 15th goal of the season. The P-Bruins took the 2-0 lead at the 4:52 mark. Chris Collins held the puck in the corner and tossed it to Nate Thompson behind the net. He threw it in front of the net to Slattengren who scored his fifth goal of the season. Providence gained a 3-0 advantage, while on the power play at the 7:20 mark. Pascal Pelletier worked the puck from the corner to Curry at the blue line. He took a shot and Aubin made the save, but the rebound went right to Hendricks, who scored his second goal of the evening and 16th on the season. Manchester got on the board at the 8:30 mark of the period. Matt Moulson tallied his 18th goal of the season with Drew Bagnall and Gabe Gauthier recording the assists. Providence finished off the first period scoring ten seconds later. Aubin wrapped the puck around the boards and it landed on the stick of Hoggan. He shot it and before Aubin could get back into the crease the puck was already in the net. It was an unassisted goal and Hoggan’s 22nd of the season. The P-Bruins took a 4-1 advantage into the first intermission.
