Manchester coach Mark Morris watched from his bench as Jordan Knackstedt drove to the net off the right wing, his stick close to the ice, and Morris knew that his Monarchs were about to be in trouble.
Knackstedt put his stick down and tipped in Jeff Hoggan's hard pass from the left wing with 3:06 to play in the third period last night, snapping a scoreless tie and propelling Providence to a 2-0 win over Manchester in Game 2 of their Atlantic Division semifinal series at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
The Monarchs return to Verizon Wireless Arena for tonight's Game 3 facing a 2-0 deficit in the best-of-7 series against the best road team in AHL history. Providence won a league-record 28 road games this season and only need a split in Manchester to put the Monarchs' season on very thin ice.
