Matt Moulson scored twice in regulation and finally won it in a shootout as the Monarchs gritted out a 7-6 victory over the last-place Norfolk Admirals, halting a three-game losing skid in Verizon Wireless Arena.
"We are extremely lucky to have gotten the two points," said Monarchs coach Mark Morris. "We expect a lot more than what we saw."
The fifth-place Monarchs (25-24-4-4, 58 pts.) have fought for valuable points in four of their last five games. They are now within a victory of catching Springfield for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Atlantic Division. Springfield was a 4-1 loser last night to Providence.
