They're not calling him captain yet but yesterday the Manchester Monarchs announced the signing of 33-year-old center Marty Murray.
Murray returns to the Monarchs after a season with HC Lugano in Switzerland. He was the second-leading scorer with the club that included NHL veteran forwards Anson Carter and Dan Lacouture for part of the season.
Murray has played 261 NHL games with four different teams, including the Los Angeles Kings, in his 12-year pro career. His veteran presence might be exactly what the youthful Monarchs lacked last season. The Monarchs again are expected to skate one of the youngest teams in the American Hockey League.
