On NHL Draft day, the picks eagerly and nervously sit in the stands waiting for their name to be called. Some have an idea they will go early, some have an inkling they will be chosen later. Trevor Lewis was shocked when his name was called 17th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
“It was really unexpected,” reflected the 21-year-old native of Salt Lake City, Utah. “I had no clue where I was going to go. My agent was thinking I was going to go in the middle or the end of the first round. I was in shock when they (Kings) called my name.”
Not only was it unexpected for the Kings to call his name, Los Angeles traded veteran Pavol Demitra in order to get the 17th overall pick and center Patrick O’Sullivan.
