In what could be the first of many trades over the next week, the Kings sent defenseman Jaroslav Modry to the Philadelphia Flyers for a third-round pick in the 2008 NHL draft.
Kings general manager Dean Lombardi made the deal from the GM meetings in Naples, Fla., where he is creating the mold for moves the team will make before Tuesday's trade deadline.
"The reality is, where we're at, we're building a reserve list - and that includes picks and young players," Lombardi said. "That has to be the focus.
"When you come to the meetings, basically everyone does some sketching. As far as applying cement, it usually doesn't happen until closer to deadline. ... As far as busy, it's more busy sketching at this stage than closing."
