Someone forgot to tell the Los Angeles Kings that they were supposed to roll over.
That, miles out of playoff contention, they were supposed to go through the motions, and after an eight-game road trip, they were supposed to sag badly.
Instead, the Kings slapped around the Calgary Flames to the tune of 6-3 in National Hockey League action Friday at the Staples Center.
Almost as surprising as the Kings' spirited effort was the Flames' response - which was negligible.
A shocking developing considering that most of the Calgarians had vowed a better effort than Tuesday's - when, despite being outshot 43-18, they'd squeaked past the home-town San Jose Sharks in overtime.
"We just have to establish a forecheck," Cory Sarich said after Friday's morning skate. "We were in our end the whole time (Tuesday). It's hard to win hockey games like that, obviously. You've got to have something really special at the end to win games like that. We just need to spend more time in the offensive zone - generate more shots and opportunities at the other end."
