It was only fitting that the goalfest between the Kings and Phoenix Coyotes would end in a shootout.
After 10 goals were scored in regulation, Patrick O'Sullivan, the fourth Kings shooter, scored in the shootout to give them a 6-5 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday night.
Mikael Tellqvist stopped Anze Kopitar, Dustin Brown and Michael Cammalleri, before O'Sullivan settled things with a winning wrist shot.
"That's the same shot I've used since I was 10 years old," O'Sullivan said. "Most of us are pretty good on breakaways and you just try and go with your best shot."
Kings coach Marc Crawford knew the capabilities of his players and planned his shootout strategy.
"Our guys are solid stickhandlers and I planned to use O'Sullivan and Cammalleri as the second and third shooters," Crawford said. "Instead, I held O'Sullivan back, and that worked."
