There are a lot of tight divisional races going on right now in the NHL, and that includes the Pacific Division.
With Dallas and San Jose deadlocked at the top of the standings heading into play on Thursday, things are shaping up to be tight out west. The Anaheim Ducks are just three points back of the Stars and Sharks as well.
Even Phoenix, the club with the worst record in the Western Conference last year, is just a point back of the eighth spot in the West and seven points back of the top spot in the Pacific.
But, if one looks really, really hard into their rearview mirror, that person would see the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings struggled last year, finishing just one point better of Phoenix in the Western Conference.
Los Angeles admitted it was rebuilding when it traded away Sean Avery, Brent Sopel and Mattias Norstrom in separate deals last year, stocking up draft picks to add to its young nucleus.
