A shocking loss, but one the Red Wings felt they deserved.
The league-leading Wings took a two-goal lead into the third period against the lowly Kings and lost. That's right, a 5-3 loss Thursday that ended an eight-game winning streak and left a lot of shocked, but understanding, Wings afterward.
"We probably got what we deserved," coach Mike Babcock said.
The Wings led 3-1 entering the third, but wound up losing for only the third time in 32 games when leading after two periods (28-3-1).
Brad Stuart's power-play goal at 13:07, his sixth goal of the season, broke a 3-3 tie. He then assisted on Anze Kopitar's goal at 14:39, a backhand between the hashmarks past Chris Osgood that gave the Kings a two-goal lead and capped the rally.
"I don't think we played very well the whole game," Dan Cleary said. "Maybe for a stretch for 10 minutes there, but the four unanswered goals, we didn't play well defensively and we turned the puck over too much."
