Another third-period comeback was in the making. The Kings had tied the score and were dominating the period. It was tough to remember the last time Columbus had a scoring chance.
It appeared as though the Kings were going to come from behind to win for the third time in six days.
But the Kings found out Thursday that rallies can be taken away with one fortuitous bounce.
With his back to the net, Blue Jackets forward Michael Peca deflected a slapshot up and over goalie Jason LaBarbera to give Columbus a 4-3 victory that ended the Kings' three-game winning streak in front of 14,173 at Staples Center.
"We were getting chances and playing the majority of the period on their end," Kings forward Patrick O'Sullivan said. "We're playing well now, so we don't want to dwell on this too much. We have to take the positives from tonight, forget about the loss and worry about Saturday."
