If it's possible for a team to get "tired" of winning, the Detroit Red Wings might have accomplished it Thursday night.
The Red Wings, the most dominant team in the NHL and riding an eight-game winning streak, blew a two-goal third-period lead to the Los Angeles Kings and lost 5-3.
The Kings, who were 1-16 against the Red Wings in their previous 17 meetings, came into the game with the lowest point total in the league.
"To me, we looked emotionally spent, for whatever reason," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "If that's just the grind time of the year or whatever, we didn't look fresh at all. Some of the mistakes we made are mental mistakes we don't normally make. We'll try to get freshened up and ready to go."
