Default Johnson plans to step up his game (Edmonton Journal)

In the world junior hockey championship at Vancouver two years ago, Jack Johnson creased Steve Downie with an elbow in the dying seconds of a USA-Canada game, and immediately became Public Enemy No. 1, even though it was obvious Downie milked the incident just a tad.

"They love Downie in Canada, don't they?" asked Johnson, who now plays on the Los Angeles Kings defence.

Uh, not so much anymore.

I definitely see a change in Jack's play from the All Star Break. I'm glad to see he is using his brain and methodically bringing in pieces of his game while he learns about the big league this season. It shows he wants to do everything possible to stay in this league for a long time and it shows his respect for the league and it's players. It's been fun to watch his growth this season. It may not have been at everyone's pace that they wanted, but you can't deny he went from an unsure, passive player, to getting more physical and carrying the puck into the offensive zone more. I personally would like to see him be a little more aggressive on the boards and I think that will come. I just don't want him to spend TOO much time with Blake and get the Blake attitude!
