With Los Angeles Kings boss Dean Lombardi looking down from the press box, the two first-round draft picks he inherited, Lauri Tukonen and Brian Boyle, rescued the Monarchs from sinking out of the Atlantic Division playoff race.
Tukonen, the Kings' 11th pick in 2004, and Boyle, the 26th choice in 2003, each scored in the second period as the Monarchs beat the Springfield Falcons, 3-1, last night before 5,260 in Verizon Wireless Arena.
"We're going to have to paste (Lombardi's) picture around the locker room," said Monarchs coach Mark Morris. "Energy, effort, commitment. It was all there tonight."
