Gabe Gauthier scored two goals and the Monarchs have their most important goal now within reach - a playoff berth.
Gauthier's two goals and assist beat the Springfield Falcons, 5-2, last night before 7,225 in Verizon Wireless Arena. In the Atlantic Division, the fifth-place Monarchs are within two points (one win) of the fourth-place Falcons for the final playoff spot.
The Monarchs (27-26-4-4, 62 points) have won two straight and earned points in five of their last seven games. They have never missed the playoffs.
"Big win," said Gauthier. "We're in a playoff race. We're going to scratch and claw for every point to make the playoffs. We don't want to be the only team in seven years to not make the playoffs."
