Given the Flyers' dismal track record in extra-session hockey this season, it was only appropriate that their celebratory goal had to survive the drama of video review.
As everyone held their breath and awaited the ruling on Scott Hartnell's goal — which went in off his skates — referee Kerry Fraser finally stood and ended the anguish.
“... No distinct kicking motion,” was all that needed to be heard and the Flyers had a 3-2 overtime win over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night at the Wachovia Center.
Only 28.5 seconds remained in the five-minute overtime when the puck entered the net off a sliding Hartnell. He had been upended by the Kings' Lubomir Visnovsky. Mike Richards had fired the puck toward Hartnell and his forward motion sent the puck past goalie Jason LaBarbera.
