With Kings sharpshooter Alexander Frolov bearing down on him, and no one around to help, Ducks rookie goaltender Jonas Hiller had no time to think Wednesday night.
Staying with every move the dynamic Frolov made on a breakaway, Hiller turned in a game-saving left-pad stop with 15.5 seconds left in the third period to get the Ducks to overtime, and what eventually turned into a 2-1, shootout triumph over the Kings at Honda Center.
The one point the Ducks (44-26-8) gained by reaching overtime was enough to clinch the club’s third consecutive Stanley Cup playoff trip, a goal that would as yet be unfulfilled if not for Hiller’s heroic stop.
