The shootout began just a little bit early, but the Ducks didn't mind.
Ducks goalie Jonas Hiller needed to shut down Kings forward Alexander Frolov on a breakaway with 16 seconds left to push the teams into overtime in what ultimately became a 2-1 Ducks shootout victory at Honda Center on Wednesday.
Hiller's left-pad save against Frolov allowed the Ducks to initially earn a single point and thereby officially secure a third consecutive trip to the playoffs and fourth appearance in the past five seasons.
