About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings News within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. For those who haven't been following closely, the Kings bought about Cloutier's contract but Cloutier filed a grievance, basically alleging that he's injured and therefore should have the buyout voided.
For those who haven't been following closely, the Kings bought about Cloutier's contract but Cloutier filed a grievance, basically alleging that he's injured and therefore should have the buyout voided. According to the Kings, the league has agreed that Cloutier's buyout should stand. Officially, Cloutier is considered bought out. His $1.033 million for this season will count against the salary cap.
I may be wrong but I am reading this as the league is accepting it as it applies to the salary cap. What happens down the line with an arbirrator is between the Kings and Cloutier and won't change the nhl's decision about the cap hit.
If Coutier was injured why did he even play. There is some crap being tossed around and Im sure its not all DC fault. Welcome to the realities of sport business...

If the arbitrator rules in favor of Cloutier, then the cap hit for Cloutier will revert back to $3.1M.
It isn't surprising that the league is siding with the team.
