Default Cammalleri on group to explore Goalie Eqpt.

The NHL representatives include Doug Risebrough of Minnesota, Garth Snow of the Islanders, Jim Rutherford of Carolina and Brett Hull of Dallas. The NHLPA’s Executive Board voted to select three goalies and two skaters. Martin Brodeur of New Jersey, Rick DiPietro of the New York Islanders, Ryan Miller of Buffalo, Dany Heatley of Ottawa and Mike Cammalleri of Los Angeles will represent the NHLPA.

“The NHLPA’s membership supports reviewing modifications to goaltender equipment provided the safety and protection of goalies is not compromised,” said NHLPA Executive Director Paul Kelly in a statement. “These five players, together with the general managers, will each bring a unique perspective to the goalie working group, and we anticipate that following the meeting there will be recommendations for the Competition Committee to review.”

The Hockey News: Headlines: NHL, NHLPA form group to explore size of goalie equipment

Heh, I guess Giguere didn't get on the committee because his position is well known.

Let's hope these guys can do something to address the size of the equipment without reducing the protection it provides. Something definetly needs to get done. I would say that over the last 10 years the shooters have far less net to shoot at.

I'm tired of the boring butterfly style.

Boring but effective. It's funny to watch the old highlight reels of goaltenders and their "stand-up" styles...it's no wonder Gretz could pot 92 goals every year.

of course brodeur would be on this thing. hes the only goalie that actually wants goalies to shorten their pads. this thing is more rigged than the draft lottery! if their gonna have him there already knowing how he feels they should let Avery go just to vote against everything he votes for.
goalies r more than able to play the butterfly style with smaller pads, its not so much that the pads have gotten bigger but that goalies style is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy better than they used to be. its not even close. its the style that they play, not the pads. notice how on a 2 on 1 if the guy with the puck gets the pass to the other guy across the goalie anticipates it and slides across to get his body in front of the shot. before they used to dive and sprawl and all that crap that looked cool but was not as effective. do u know why goalies dont do that crap anymore? its cause it doesnt work as well. thats just one basic, day 1 difference. and there isnt even a scoring problem cause the younger skaters these days r way better too. in fact most teams r complaining that their goalies r not good enough.
look at that stupid rule where the goalies cant play the puck in those areas behind the net. the nhl had to go and be different from the rest of the world and make it harder for goalies. did that stop giguere from sucking at playing the puck? and did that stop turco from kicking ass at playing the puck??? in fact you could argue that if you let turco go further out to the corners to play the puck he might make more mistakes like Roy used to sometimes do.
goalies r better now and thats y they stop more shots. but they r just gonna mess things up and make things all complicated for everyone. and a bunch of legit goalies r gonna want to leave, and the scoring is not gonna change. i mean look at the pens and rangers first game, both of those goalies have huge pads! and they were scoring every 5 seconds, and both those goalies r supposed to be amongst the best in the league. it really wont change much so they just need to leave the goalies alone. its an insult to the goalies cause your pretty much saying that they couldnt make those saves without those pads when its the new and way better style they play that is the main difference maker. you think kipper, nabby and turco and all these guys would suck if their pads were a little smaller? they just need to leave the whole game alone. whats wrong with it? its a great game, keep the goalie regulations they way they are so the pads dont get bigger and leave the game alone.
oh and giguere, as much as i hate that guy and think he is waaaaaaayy over rated and cant stand it when people actually comment on him being good, his pads r actually shorter than a lot of other goalies. and although his style doesnt involve him bringing the pads together in the front like many other goalies, he would have a hard time getting them to connect up front cause they r a little bit shorter. and because they are just a little bit shorter than most they look wider. that is the the allusion that everyone sees and that is why everyone thinks they r so much bigger than everyone elses. and plus he is a big guy so that doesnt help eiither.
ok now that i have said this, i know everyone will hate me but i dont care. just had to say that cause they r messing up the game

I don't want to be an A-hole, but please do not use short text-style typing when posting here. It really doesn't take that much longer to type. And besides that, if you went for a job and typed like that you would get fired.
Just get used to it.

Now watch, some spelling Nazi will correct me on my punctuation...

Why is basic grammar so challenging? It's tough to take a post seriously when it looks like it was written by a 5 year old...

I'll agree with you that it is a very effective style, and I really don't mind seeing it played all that much, but let's get rid of the gigantic chest protectors and shoulder pads that allow goalies to go down into the butterfly and still protect almost all of the top half of the net.

Is there anyone that disputes the fact that the shooters have far less net to shoot at than they did 10-15 years ago?
