The American Hockey League announced Friday that Manchester Monarchs center Brian Boyle has been named the Rbk Edge/AHL Rookie of the Month for January. Boyle recorded six goals and six assists for 12 points along with a plus-6 rating in 12 games for the Monarchs last month.
Boyle kicked off the new year by scoring the game-winning goal and adding an assist in a 5-3 victory at Worcester on Jan. 4. He had two more points versus Binghamton on Jan. 5, and ran his goal-scoring streak to four games with a tally versus Albany on Jan. 9. Boyle scored twice for the Monarchs at Chicago on Jan. 19, assisted on the winning score on Jan. 23 versus Worcester and became the first AHL rookie to hit the 20-goal mark this season on Jan. 25 versus Lowell.
In recognition of his achievement, Boyle will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Monarchs home game.
