The Detroit Red Wings won't have to deal with Rob Blake tonight when they face the Los Angeles Kings. But they could make a deal for Blake before the Feb. 26 trade deadline.
The big defenseman is expected to miss another two weeks with a non-displaced fracture of his left ankle. Unless he has a setback, Blake could be one of the more notable players to switch teams by the end of the month. The Red Wings are in the market for a defenseman.
Blake is old (38), banged up and nearing the end of his career. But the Red Wings know he can still be a valuable asset with his size (6-foot-4, 225) and reach, his ability to deliver crunching checks and his booming point shot on the second power-play unit.
Can a team deal an injured player? I don't think they can, but if it's possible, we could just leave him in Detroit tonight.
The 'good Captain' isn't with the team in Detroit..he is surfing in Manhattan Beach today. Dean calls him on the phone everyday, letting him know what teams want him and if he'll waive his no trade clause to go to such and such team.
