About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings News within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. The Kings have made no rich advances in that regard since drafting him in the sixth round in June.
"Same old, same old," said Azevedo yesterday from his family home
Same old, same old?? The Kings actually took a chance and drafted his ass. Maybe it was just the tone of the article, but what's he expecting? He's a midget who was skipped over in the draft for two years. I'm rooting for him to prove that he should have been drafted a lot earlier, but is he really expecting to get an entry level contract before Teubert and the other 1000 players drafted before him this summer? Prove yourself and earn a spot in Manchester!!

I don't think Azevedo is expecting a pro contract in the sense that the Kings had BETTER give him one. I think he is expecting it from himself because he won't go down in training camp without a fight. I like his spirit, and bottom line is, he's going to need every ounce of that spirit to make it to the NHL with his size and lack of speed.
if azevedo turns out to be a great player he will have a good story to tell the kids when he gets old

"By the time the Kings play a couple exhibition games with Phoenix next month, he'd like to have a pro deal in hand." -found in the same article
It's not that he doesn't want to be there, just that he's been in this situation before. He would love to get a contract with the team that took a chance on him by drafting him and has shown he has the ability to get things done on the ice. For Christ's sake, the guy racked up 124 points last season! If he's able to do a third of that in the NHL then he'd be a good addition to the team.
He's shown that he doesn't let his size affect his play in the OHL, which isn't a league full of a bunch of small guys last I checked, and at least deserves a shot to play for the big leagues IMO. I remember seeing him play a couple of games that NHL Network aired and I think he has what it takes to turn a few heads.
