Normally, Devils coach Brent Sutter would've waited until after the second period, behind closed doors, before chewing out his captain following a defensive lapse. But not on this night.
Uninterested in watching the Devils drop another home game because of breakdowns in front of their own net, Sutter tore into Jamie Langenbrunner on the bench while TV cameras and a Prudential Center crowd of 15,279 watched his animated display of anger.
The fact that Langenbrunner went right back at Sutter with some choice words of his own may have sent shock waves up and down the bench, but the Devils played the rest of the way with some resiliency that had been missing in recent games and rolled over the Los Angeles Kings, 6-3, last night to snap a three-game losing streak.
Asked about the exchange, Sutter couldn't hold back a smile.
