Well, they probably would love those Derby Doll photos but since the blog is for the Women's Flat Track Association, they will probably post a lot of flat track pics which Rinkrat has never shot and possibly never will.
Yes, I agree. You can do flat track in a variety of locations, even an indoor basketball court. I was part of the moving of the LA Derby Dolls track from Little Tokoyo to the Doll Factory and it is one heck of a project to take that thing down and put it back up again! Also, if it's not put back together just so, it will create problems for skaters.
I also agree that if RR when to take photos at a flat track they would be awesome and people would use them. I think however that we are both spoiled by the banked track. Somehow it seems like flat track is a let down in comparison.
I have thought about skating flat track because it is easier and there are more leagues but I love that banked track so much that I just want to skate on it as many times as I can.
One thing about the banked track is that once the event is over you stiill have this huge track. So what you have to do is have your own building for the entire month instead of renting a basketball court for a night or something so the costs iskyrocket.
I will probably shoot flat track eventually sometime but I am hooked on the banked track. I've seen photos from flat track and they are not so appealing.
In the 80's when I did some speedskating that's all that was used indoor rinks. there were so many people that skated then and the races ran all day just for So. Ca. it took almost 10 plus hours.
Now a days they do all of Ca. in about 5-6 hours. this is the one that sends you to the Nationals.
So any kind of intrest in skating is good. I wonder if the could have a skating session at that bank track to raise more money to keep the operating cost down? But I guess the ins. cost would be pretty Hi.

I think it would be awesome to have skate times open to the public or something like that. I'm not sure if it's ever been discussed or what the logistics would be. I know that just for myself I would love to skate the track just for fun sometimes and not just doing drills and structured practices.
