In this troubled economy my drivers are coming back to me wanting more delivery commisions due to the tipping has gone down. Do you agree? One driver claims that he used to go home with $60-70 dollars a night and now it's down to about $30-45. Business is actually up right now and yet they are telling me there recieving less.
The other night KTLA had a poll about this and here's what they came up with:
I find myself actually tipping more. I didn't know what was standard for a 30 second mattress delivery, so I gave them $20, and I'm tipping in the 25% + area when it comes to eating out. It really sucks for those who depend on that income, figure I'll help out all I can.

Karma to whomever can finish that.

And coming directly from one of the biggest industries that rely on tipping, we thank you for doing so.
I always tip at least 20% or more. I used to work at a Red Robin and as a bellman at a hotel, both jobs paying minimum wage but tips were included. Knowing ive been in those peoples shoes, ill tip as good as i can, unless the server is asking to be tipped less because of their poor service.

Pretty much the same here. The worst service I've ever received I still gave her 15%. Now, I did excuse myself from the table, ran over the grocery store across the street and got a couple rolls of pennies. I think it was like a $5 tip, and noone else at the table was going to tip. One guy actually tried to get out of paying for his meal the service was so bad. But I've worked as a line cook at Vince's in Ontario, and Red Robin in Irvine as a bus boy, I know how much the servers depend on it. So by doing that, she got her tip (and the point) and everyone else got a good laugh which lightened the mood. Well she didn't laugh about it, but everyone else did. Even her manager.

Sometimes I use the tip sometime I use the whole shaft. I guess it depends if I am horny...
Ohh, Yes I still tip.

Yea, so far you guys are saying what I believe in also. The polls even show it. And were we are located in one of pizza places, is were the DR.'s and Lawyers live from Loma Linda Medical Center and Redlands area. I have a hard time believing that either group is struggling during these times!

When I was driving, I filled up out of my tip money. Maybe your drivers do the same, and that's what they mean, that with the gas prices up, their net take home is less?

Yeah, but remember I still do give them a delivery commision also. For everytime they go out the door, tip or no tip, they get that commision. Plus I don't ask them to share the tip with the people that actually make the pizza.
My tipping hasn't changed at all, only thing is that I'm doing less things currently that would make sense for me to tip. For instance, less going out to eat.
