I usually note the tax on the bill, then multiply that 2x for tips, or more if I get a lil extra attention from the server. the double on the tax gets close to 20%, right?
Yes but he is driving the pizza to the customer. The customer is tipping for the convenience of not having to drive there yourself. I was a pizza man and I can't tell you how many times I got far less than 15%. People have a pre-conceived notion that it is ok to give a pizza man a buck (even on a $100+ order)
Tip jars in general are stupid. Tip someone for turning around and walking 20 feet and grabbing your pizza off the top of the oven and for giving you the correct change? Not exactly going the extra mile customer service wise IMO
Apples and oranges stuff there
Yes, but no. I'll give a real life example, then you tell me. Driver shows up, on time, you ask him for cheese and peppers. He forgot to grag the cheese and peppers ( or for this tale always does) and it pisses you off, you like peppers. BUT the guy/ cook that rings you up inside, goes out of his way to see if you need cheese, peppers, or even Ranch (yes people like to drip ranch on their pizza), before you go out the door. Now it makes it even harder choice. And keep in mind, I do pay my drivers a commision to just deliver the pizzas to youyr house.
NO **** man, if your going to take care of someone like that you should get a nice one!
And yes I've met big head Kelly. I just refer to him like that because he's got a huge head, and yes very very nice guy. Very quite guy at that. I remember he would always be driving a blueish green suburban. But, yes I did, and man I miss those days up in Blue Jay.
Blue Jay as in Lake Arrowhead? Man, I haven't thought about that rink in years! Great place to play.

I've never thought about tipping at least 15% for food delivery until you mentioned it. Had Charo Chicken delivered tonight, it was $14.93, gave the guy a $20, told him I wanted $3 back, so he got a $2.07 tip, a little less than 14%. I usually just give the guy $2 on top of whatever the total was.
Apparently I should have read this before the chicken got here, but I got distracted by the Kings/Wings 2001 Classic Series on NHL Network. Sorry, Charo Chicken man, I should have tipped you an extra quarter.
I still tip the same...$1 per drink no matter if it's a $2.50 beer at happy hour or a $5.00 Jim Beam & Coke. Understand that when I sit down to drink, it is usually for several hours that blend happy hour and regular prices. I think this is fair. (BTW, if the bartender comps me a drink, there's another $1-$2 tip for them, regardless.)
As for food, that is very qualitative.

I write on my receipt "You should have went to college" as my tip. It either motivates them to actually go to college or take shooting lessons, either way I am helping.

This reminds me of a story from last weekend. Not a tipping story exactly but a treating food workers with respect story.
My sister and I were driving to Vegas and we stopped at the Lenwood exit in Barstow for lunch at Del Taco. We go in and we're waiting in line and this woman is absolutely berating the male cashier saying that the female cashier called her an f-ing bitch and the female cashier was telling the woman not to yell at him because he's new and the woman kept yelling "this doesn't concern you" when really it did since she was saying the female cashier was swearing at her. She then yelled at the cashier for the way he took her money. When she was leaving, the guy handed her the food and said, "Have a nice day!" and she yelled back "Have a nice life working at Del Taco". This lady was seriously yelling loud enough everyone in the restaurant could hear her.
I'm not expecting great service when I go to fast food/take out places but I always try to treat people with respect.

I usually can't stand this **** for a long time and I like to join such "conversation", usually not with nice things to say. ****ing lunatics who forgot to take their medications.

To be serious, for those going out less. What has changed in life that made you clamp down on spending? Job loss? Too much debt?
For me, the latter. I had to (i.e. was pretty much forced to) incur quite a large debt to preserve a part of the family legacy, a piece of my childhood, and to honor my late dad.
