It never occurred to me to even tip a tow truck driver. But my response to this goes along with my response to the "Are you tipping less" thread the FBJ started a few weeks ago.
Me no start thread...

F tipping them I already pay for my AAA service that covers it. Go above and beyond and I can see it but why should anyone tip someone who is doing their job?
I don't tip my pool guy or gardner ever week either, I PAY THEM isn't that tip enough?
Waiter, hairdresser sure they rely heavily on tip to survive and their employers take that into account when they hire them.
The Tow truck drivers don't work for AAA. When they take a call for AAA they make less than they do on a normal call
I've never needed a tow truck driver before (probably need one soon since I jinxed myself), but I could have sworn I was taught NOT to tip them because they're getting paid for it already by the company.
It's like someone who comes over to fix your Fridge or A/C... especially if you call the ones in the phone book that runs their own company. You pay them whatever they charge you and you don't have to tip, I think.

they get a contract rate and get exclusive coverage in a local area, they make less per tow but get far more tows than most. With the obvious exception of CHP tows. Does it really effect the driver or the tow company owner ?
If you let the dispatcher know that you need a ramp truck, which most towing services have and want to use for larger vehicles with four wheel drive, they usually send it.
Both times ramp trucks came out.. The drivers didn't feel comfortable doing it I guess.. almost 1/2 the tire stick out each side..
I can completly understand. They don't want to risk having a vehicle fall off. I have now since found a regular tow guy who owns his own business and he has done all the towing for me.
Now I just need to buy a trailer so I can haul it myself with the F250.

I don't tip my gardener or mail lady every week either, but I do give them a give at Christmas. They're willing to go the extra mile every once in a while and I appreciate it.
I have never tipped a tow truck driver. Now if they delivered a pizza then maybe.

I haven't ever tipped a tow truck and it never really occurred to me to tip them either, I haven't really needed a tow truck in a long time but if I do in the future I'm sure this thread will pop into my head and I shell out an extra 10 bucks or so to the driver depending on what they did for me.
It never occured to me that you should tip a tow truck driver... This is the first I've ever heard of it... But no, I don't and haven't tipped a tow truck driver... You took the job with the agreed upon hourly rate and I'm sure you didn't include tips in your plans. Everyone wants a tip for doing their job nowadays! What happened to getting paid to do a job and that's that? This is one of the problems with this country... Everyone expecting! Everyone's entitled... F that! Do your job and when you get a tip consider it a treat, not an expectation... If a tow truck driver is extra nice or does something extra I'd gladly do it. This is a job you signed up for, don't give me that "we change your tire next to speeding traffic" stuff, this is in your job description is it not?

I will start the champaign for tipping Tow Truck drivers, as soon as (EMT's=Emergency Medical Technician's) aka Ambulance Drivers get tipped first. Sorry tow truck drivers, you do a good job, but you do not deal with half the crap we do, and for some reason I'm guessing you get paid more than we do too...
First: Tip your Ambulance!!!
Second: Tip your Tow Truck Driver!!
Side note: I have used a tow truck twice in my life, and both times, I gave them what little I had.

What baffles me is that my local fast food restaurants has a tip jar out. YOU ARE JUST TAKING MY ORDER. Why the hell do you need to get tipped?
Never saw why anyone had to tip at Starbucks either. You're paying 4 bucks for coffee, why would anyone waste even precious change for expensive coffee? Save up for next time. They're just making coffee people, not giving it CPR and massages before giving it to you.

There is a self serve frozen yogurt place next to my work...you dispense the yogurt in to your own cup, put on the toppings yourself and all they do is ring you up, they dont have to take your order or anything and there is a freakin' tip jar next to the register. What exactly am I suppose to be tipping for?

Yeah, I've seen places like that and that always pisses me off. The best thing ever though was when my boss went to the McDonalds drive up not long ago, he placed his order and it was $5 or $6 or so and he gave the guy a $10 bill and the guy asked if he could keep the change. My boss asked him if he was kidding and he said "hell no, gas is expensive". Naturally, he got no tip. Not like he would anyways.
