The story doesn't say if or how the crowd knew the pedestrian was dead. Could he have been helped?

At least they got the guy, in what sounds like a rather unfriendly way (I think the writer used a bit of artistic license with "roughed him up.").

Hard to believe people are still stupid enough to drink and drive. There goes one persons life, which just got snuffed out, and the person who did it now will go to jail for the next 50 years.

A drunk driver who hit me, three other cars and three pedestrians was ripped out of his truck after he came to a stop while four guys proceeded to beat the crap out of him. They followed him knowing something bad was going to happen and they were the witnesses. Once it happened, they were pissed off. Unforunately, the police got there before the drunk got seriously injured.

This is absolute horse-****. I hate vigilantism so much because it is not a form of justice. As an American, I've been brainwashed that we're special because our justice is actually fair(debatable). It can't be a universal, palatable justice that (almost) everyone can live with when we dole punishment out of band. No justice can operate in that manner.

I have as much right to beat up a purse-snatcher as that purse-snatcher has to his victim's purse. Why be tough if you aren't going to use your brain? They are not mutually exclusive traits.
