Let's say you're a member of Congress or some other lawmaking body answerable to a constituency.
A matter comes up and is voted upon.
Your personal beliefs run contrary to what the vast majority of your constituents believe.
Would you vote for the people you represent? Or would you vote your personal beliefs on the matter? Would the size of the majority in your constituency change your opinion?
Based on my beliefs, of course. You are supposed to tell everything you support before you get elected. Nobody is going to agree with EVERYTHING you stand for. But since you got the majority, they give you the right to vote just like you were telling them you were going to vote.
