It's every 56 days days doll. They won't let you donate early.
Have you considered Alyx donation if your not type A blood? Then you only have to donate every 4 months!
Thanks for your help.
Sorry HRN...
When they say that I can donate, I do.
I'm A(neg) CMV(neg) so the Alyx donation is out. I have done the one where they suck out they blood, filter out the blood cells and put the plasma back in with some glucose ... or something. Its the equivilant to donating two times at once.
I felt retarted after that one though. They took too much blood out at one time.
Yay! I am too. It was a slow day at the Pomona Donor Center. Everyone in the area should come by and donate blood or platelets. I'm the Nursing Supervisor of that Red Cross Donor Center.
I'm due to be bled out a bit. Type A+. I've done whole, double-red, platelets, can you please tell me what is needed most? My bb has been calling me lately to come in. I just had health check which green lights me.
And, donating reduces heart attack risk. Just getting harpooned isn't much fun.
O+ is more universal and therefore the most wanted blood type.
at least that's what they tell me, since I'm that type.
They want and need ALL blood types, there is a critical shortage.
However, O- is the universal blood type and can be given to anyone.
As fast as we get the blood in and processed it is shipped out to the hospitals. It does not stay in our Pomona facility for very long. I've been down in the lab in the cold storage where they keep the blood and some of the shelves are pretty sparse for all the blood we collect per day.

Platelets are most needed and they can grab a red cell at the same time. Platelets only have a shelf life of 5 days, so they are used up pretty fast and you can donate those every two weeks.
Yes, donating blood reduces your risk for heart attack and stroke.
The finger stick is worse then the actual needle stick. It's no big deal.

Freeking A, I thought I was the only one that thought that. I hate that little needle man, it hurts more than the donation itself. God, I hope I never become diabetic and have to stick myself everyday, that would suck.
BTW, I donated last week!

Southern California, CA –American Red Cross officials today announced plummeting blood supplies and a critical shortage Labor Day week.
To avert a crisis, Red Cross is making an urgent appeal for local residents to call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543) or log onto givelife.org and make an appointment to donate blood. Red Cross blood drive hours will be extended throughout Southern California for donor convenience.
“Every day we make triage decisions to meet local hospitals’ needs,” states Cliff Numark, director of donor recruitment for American Red Cross Blood Services, Southern California Region. “We’ve taken several strong steps to avert this emergency appeal; however, when the blood supply becomes so severely affected, we have no choice but to alert the public.
“All of the blood provided to the sick and injured in Southern California is provided by volunteer donors,” Numark continues. “The only way to avert a critical blood shortage is for more people to volunteer to donate blood, and we desperately need this now.”
As of Sunday night, the Red Cross blood supply inventory for all of Southern California included just 24 units of type O-negative blood, 6 units of type B-negative blood, 34 units of A-negative blood and only 107 units of B-positive blood. If supplies are not replenished, the American Red Cross fears its shelves will lack the blood types most needed for treating trauma patients and newborns.
