Airplane Mechanic Causes $100M Damages After Pushing Wrong Button - Switched
"a mechanic at the Baton Rouge Metro Airport accidentally pressed a starter switch on a commuter airplane she was cleaning, which immediately sent the craft into full-fledged take-off mode -- right into two other planes inside the same hangar."
So besides being one of the worst wrote articles I have read in a long time.... Your telling me that to put an airplane in takeoff mode is as easy as accidentally pushing a button?
"We all make mistakes, but we're pretty sure this woman will soon be out of a job."
Why? because the airplane is easier to turn on then a Catholic Priest at a junior high wrestling match?
... I’m vaklempt! Talk amongst yourselves......

I'd like to hear FBJ's take on this one....something smells fishy! I'm almost positive that you have to "inch" the throttle forward before AP takes over.
The article that you linked to above is full of all kinds of inaccuracies. A better one is here. It isn't perfect (especially the last paragraph where it says Atlantic Southeast Airlines is owned by Air West...who??), but it is better than the link in the first post of this thread.
I flew this aircraft type for nearly 4,000 hours as Captain. Anything is possible, and this is no exception. However, whoever was involved in this had to be collectively completely brain-dead for this incident to have occurred. Essentially, it had to have involved maintenance procedures that were overlooked or completely ignored.
Read the first response to the story I linked to above. It pretty much tells you everything you need to know.

Did you ever look at your Co-Pilot and say "Engage" or respond to a request from them and say "Make it So"?
Often.
More often than that, came quotes like, "I just wanted to tell you 'Good luck! We're all counting on you!'" and "Do you like to watch gladiator movies, Billy?"
