LB man gets 26 years to life in freeway mishap that killed deputy

SANTA ANA - A career criminal was sentenced today to 26 years to life in prison stemming from a freeway mishap that claimed the life of a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy who swerved to avoid a stove that fell off the man's pickup truck.

If anyone is interested, there is a small memorial to Dep. Piquette on the south wall of the parking lot of the the Fry's in Anaheim. This Fry's is on La Palma Ave. between Tustin and Miller and the parking lot runs parallel to the 91 freeway where this occurred.

Obviously this is a more complex situation, but if there's anything I hate more than bicyclists, it's people who leave **** on the highway.....err, freeway.

If you're negligent enough to leave some big ****ing obstacle on the road, then you should be the one to pick it up. Stove, big ass tire, your muffler. Whatever. Dodge traffic and get it out of the road. With any luck, people will hit you instead. And if you don't know that something fell off, well **** you anyway!

Nothing like dodging something at 75 mph that could rip your vehicle apart in an instant.

If this isn't irony, I don't know what is... a memorial to a deputy who was essentially killed by an appliance, at a place that sells appliances.

But I do have to give Fry's props for doing so. Nice to see a large company such as theirs has a heart and takes a part in the community.
