...yesterday, trying to fix my kitchen sink. Still not sure exactly how I did it, but I smacked my bare foot into the stove or the cabinet. I felt the "crunch" and knew exactly what happened. My little toe is almost solid black and swollen up like a grape. Fortunately, it looks worse than it feels - it only hurts if I touch it. I was limping a bit yesterday after it happened, but I'm walking fine today.
There's nothing I can do for this ****, is there? Is there any point to going to a doctor? I just kind of taped it up. Inside my boot, I can't really feel it, so I doubt it's getting hurt any more than it already is. Nobody I've tallked to so far has ever broken a toe, but a friend of mine who was an Army medic basically confirmed what I thought: having it looked at by a doctor is just a waste of a co-pay. Anybody have any experience with this?

I figure if you can't beat them, join them.
Ju'st u'se an apo'strophe before every letter 's in every 'single word. Maybe 'some of the'se fool's will realize how 'stupid that i's.
How much is your co-pay? I'd recommend the doctor visit because the last thing you want is for your toe to grow crooked.
I broke it playing baseball in high school. I sympathize with you. The pain is absolutely excrutiating. I kept making the death sound of "arrrgggghhhrrrrrrhrhhhhhhhhhgggggg" and sucking air. I went to the hospital and had to wear this brace thing on the end of my foot to keep the toes inline.

She says that now. Wait until she sees you barefoot and you have a hanging chad of a toe pointing diagonally. She won't give you a second look.

I would see a doctor.
My ex-stepmom broke her baby toe walking (she was in sandles) in to the back of my sisters foot (she was wearing tennis shoes)
She saw a doctor and he said there was nothing he could do for her, except to tell her to use the white medical tape to support the small toe to three of other toes till it healed..
See a doctor. I broke a toe and thought they would tape it together but because I broke it at an angle instead of straight across, I had to have surgery and have a pin put in for 2 months because the toe would never have healed otherwise. And it was black & blue and sore the way you are describing it. Once the doctor did the surgery he discovered I had actually broken the toe in about 4 different places and removed a few of the smaller bones.
I broke my "pinky" toe in my left foot a month ago, and it looked just as you described. I would see your doctor and get an X-ray. If it's black and blue, it's probably broken. When I saw my doctor, he was pretty sure it was broken, and the x-ray confirmed it. The good news, is that he "buddy"-taped it the the next toe over, and that was pretty much the remedy. NO cast or crutches, and now it's basically healed, 4 weeks later. I hope your situation also turns out well, but I would definitely see your doctor, just in case.

Broke the big toe on my left foot a while back. I did go to the doctor and he told me I could of bought some bandages from Rite Aid and taped it to the toe next to it myself.
They did it for me there and I re-taped it myself several times because it gets to be uncomfortable.
I do reccomend taping it to the toe next to it just to keep it straight.
