There is a reason I don't ride bikes. If it lacks 4 walls and airbacks, or at least a roll cage anda 5 point harness, I ain't getting in it on the road, or offroad.
In downtown LA we've got fixed-gear punk-rock bike messengers. They are so rebellious! No brakes!! Fancy Italian bikes, ftw!!
*yawn, rub the sleep from my eye, look around bored*
They roll through stop signs and take big chances while riding and they like to gather en masse and clog up intesections. But they party a lot so they don't really ride around nights and weekends.
I don't understand grown men riding what appears to be their kid's bmx/mountain bike Big Lots special down the sidewalk.
One of them actually asked me to move over as I was walking my dog so he could ride by.

Unless of course if its on a golf course.
for me, the reason not to bike to work 9 miles away is all the stupid-assed drivers everywhere in between. if there's only an easier, and safer, way...

But why he snapped that day at that time is going to haunt him for the rest of his life. Assault with a deadly weapon (car ) should get him some time in jail. I'm surprised that the guy is still able to walk, the guys I normally ride with would have beaten him to a bloody mess.
The reason many of a cyclist ride in groups and take up a lane is for safety, we are sick of almost getting hit , and reading about fellow friends that have been hit, and end like this or a few that have been killed.
I don't ride in groups that big or in canyon roads that heavily traveled. I do give the cars the right away due to their weight factor.
This weekend I am doing something called the Death Ride and we are lucky that 4 of the 5 mountain passes that we will ride will be closed to autos, if I make it to that last hill at mile 100 , I don't want to have to worry about cars making pot shots when they drive by.
So to the few of you that think you own the road and don't care if we are ran over, just think of something that you might do on a regular basis, and some A-Hole come in to wreck you for no reason, I hope you guys are just trying to stir it up and be funny.
KARMA is a strange thing..... Tiger Woods talking crap about Hockey -- then needing surgery that ends his season
Thankfully the dog that the doctor slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting got away unscathed and will live...

Regarding the incident reported this morning where a one Dr. Christopher Thompson*, a 58-year-old emergency room physician and resident of the Mandeville Canyon neighborhood, was involved in an alleged road rage incident between two bicyclists, Christian Stoehr and Ron Peterson, on Mandeville Canyon Rd. in Brentwood, there have been some updates.
"Captain Eaton, the commanding officer of the West LA station, reports that LAPD believes this was indeed a 'road rage' incident, made an arrest, and is handling the matter as a felony criminal assault, and not as a traffic collision," explained Mike Bonin, Chief of Staff for Councilmember Bill Rosendahl, in a comment that was verified this morning. "The investigation will be handled by [West Los Angeles division] Detectives, who are seeking a criminal filing. When LAPD updates us on the progress, I will be sure to share that information here."
