I just wanted to point out some stuff that I find really interesting in regards to which console is better. We can go back and forth regarding exclusive titles. In my opinion the trio of Halo 3 / Gears of War and Bioshock is pretty tough to beat. I just don't see anything on the PS3 at this time that comes close to either of those 3 games. We all know about Halo but it is looking like Gears of War and Bioshock will turn into a series. Bioshock 2 is already in the works.
I wanted to look at some titles that are available on both consoles. Most of the titles are 360 titles ported to the PS3. What is going to happen there is that the games you will be playing on PS3 are a lesser version of their 360 equivalent. This is a normal occurrence when a title is built for on system before it's made for the other. Keep in mind that any port will not use the full power of the PS3's cell processor.
Enough of that...lets look at game reviews.
Xbox360: Gamespot 9.5 / Critics 9.6 / Users 9.2
PS3: Gamespot 9.0 / Critics 8.1 / Users 8.5
360: 8.5 / 9.0 / 8.4
PS3: 8.1 / 8.6 / 8.3
(PS3 Version does not have online capability)
360: 8.5 / 8.5 / 8.8
PS3: 8.0 / 7.9 / 8.2
360: 9.1 / 8.9 / 9.2
PS3: 9.0 / 8.5./ 8.6
The difference on The Orange Box is pretty big. The difference is a bit smaller on the other games but when you consider the processing power of the PS3 is that really acceptable?
Of course, once PS3 comes out with Metal Gear 4 and Final Fantasy that will change but after looking at what is available on the PS3 right now nothing excites me except for games that are available on the 360 and not only available but higher rated too. When you factor in how immense the Xbox Live community is it's kind of a no brainer.
I'm hoping that next Xmas I'll be able to score a 80gb PS3 for $300-400 retail. I suspect that the price wars will hit big this time next year. The cheapest 360 console goes for only $280 and I would not be surprised to see that sell for $200 next year with the Elite going for about $350 and the Premium going for about $300. Sooner or later Sony is going to have to bite the bullet on the MSRP just to sell the systems. When they do is when I'll be there with a fist full of hundies. Besides....I'll be buying a 1080p Sony sometime next year and I'll want a BluRay player.
I just bought my PS3 yesterday, and I agree with BadIdea. There's no doubt that the 360 got a huge head start in the market and Sony made several mistakes in launching the PS3 (obviously the $$$), but the PS3 still kicks the 360's ass in several respects. First, it has better processing power, larger disc storage space, a blu-ray player, AND they don't break down after 4 weeks of use.
For the most part I think that the 360 has blown it's wad and PS3 is right about to hit it's stride with Kill Zone 2, MGS4, FFVIII and a slew of other games to come out in 2008. If OP wants to get a pat on his back for buying a 360 fine, but be prepared to get a lot of grief when you start joining in our PS3 discussions.
PS: Am I alone in thinking that Halo 3 was a bit dissappointing? I played COD4 and I instantly thought it was better than Halo 3.

I've already gone on record as saying that I'll buy a PS3 for the purpose of playing MGS4 and FFXIII. My point is that AT THIS TIME there really isn't a reason from a gaming perspective to own a PS3 instead of a 360.

True, but there are some great games on PS3 now, you just have to take off your green colored glasses...

A lot of my buddies say the same thing. To them I say.....
Sitting on comfy couch playing on 50" widescreen TV>>>>>>>>>>>>>Hunched over a PC (like at work) and playing on a PC monitor
well said. but i have to disagree with you about the 360 v ps3 thing though. i have both and i'm on my second 360. the ps3 is just a better piece of hardware, not to mention that it decodes nearly every next generation audio codec. the very fact that the 360 has an external power supply the size of a brick makes it inferior. the ps3 was able to integrate it without worrying about heat issues. why couldn't microsoft? the ps3's whisper quiet operation is also a plus. the 360 on the other hand...well....lets just say that its about as loud as mom's kitchen aid mixer

Or maybe you should take off your "I wanna suck Sony's Nuts" glasses.
Trying to argue against the fact that a PS3 has little to no quality titles is a bit ridiculous. Nobody is saying the PS3 sucks, (I have had one for over a year now) it's just not there yet.
I for one will enjoy my 360/PS3/Wii/PC and not have to worry about justifying how much I spent all day to other people.
I think we can all agree that the Wii sucks. Yes it was expertly marketed and flawlessly deployed to create a false sense of exclusivity by Nintendo but the product itself is no better than the Gamecube. Bravo to the ad-execs who worked for Nintendo but a big **** you to Nintendo's R&D staff for releasing such an inferior product.

Hey, I thought I was the only one that thougt that thing is a $250 Gamecube with a new controller! Oh but it displays widescreen but not in HD. I guess that makes it worth it. lol
