The post above will be edited as often as possible. Make sure that one player from each game posts the results from the game in this thread. Somewhere in the options menus on NHL 08 is an option to have the results emailed to you. Just set that up, cut and paste from the email, and wrap it in this without the spaces: [ C o d e ] [ / C o d e ].
I don't really think there's any reason to set up a new league/group online for this... to play each game, just set up an unranked game with the following (default) settings:
Private Game: Yes
Game Speed: Medium
Period Length: 5 min
It'd be interesting to play with 10 minute periods with a slow game speed, but we'll stick with the default settings since we're probably all used to them.
Have fun, feel free to suggest anything, post whatever you want, and in the case of nonresponsive players, we'll play it by ear (read: hunt down and punish them mercilessly).

Although I'll admit...something about playing an unknown in KOPI PEVS when he has Luongo worries me. I better fire up the NHL08. I haven't touched that game in over a month. I need me some practice.

Speak for yourself, I just got mine in the mail onTuesday and have played it once. The one thing I do not like is the use of the stick for the shots, it is a pain in the ass and the only pass on that mode is a saucer pass...to be honest, I might sell it back after the tourney and pick up 2K8

Me too, I've played with my friends from back home online but when you play the same people over and over again you tend to figure out their tendencies. I need to play some unknown guys online!

saucer pass isn't the only passing option. They have a regular pass and a slap shot pass as well. Get used to the sticks man...once you get used to them it's the best thing in the world.

I'm pretty sure the format is supposed to be best-of-three. Just give me at least 24 hours to brush up on my stuff and I'll be ready. I honestly haven't touched that game since before Christmas.

Same thing happens to me every once in a while... just go into your dashboard, delete all of your roster saves, and then go back on. It'll do it once more, but then should be good for a while.
Hopefully you don't have any roster save files that you spent any time on... (creating players, etc)

I had a similar problem getting used to the controls. I bought my 360 specifically for NHL 08 and Halo 3, upgrading from my regular Xbox where I always played the 2k series... took me a little time but now it's almost laughable to go back to the 2k style of control.
You should get used to it fairly quickly... I recommend playing a handful of games to get it down before your first tournament game.

I just tried to get online and the EA servers can be infuriating. I select an online match and it automatically checks for roster dowloads. It takes forever to tell you hey we have a roster download available (which they always go) and do you want to download it? You say yes and it takes forever again, by then you lost your match and it never remembers that you recently downloaded a roster that they have had on their server for 2 months!!!!
Not only that I constantly lose connection when it's checking for rosters and sometimes have to go through this 5-6 times before it finally takes. Then I get a game versus some dude and my game locks up during the 1st intermission of a 0-0 game. WTF?!?!?!?

Works for me...that means to win the cup you need 7 victories total. That works out fine.
The only serious complaint I have about this game is like, one game you go and score 5-0 on a guy and win, but the next time you get 45 shots - and not one goal goes in. It seems like whoever scores the first goal almost ALWAYS wins - even if he only gets 5 shots in the game, he'll get 4 goals. The guy who doesnt score first will get 30+ shots and get completely robbed every shot. It's kind of hard to explain what I'm talking about, but it's just a small rant so who cares
