NHL 2K8 will use 2K Sports' NHL Signature Style system to highlight player characteristics, with revolutionary player models, improved visuals and innovative gameplay. The Signature Style will also be extended to marquee players, with branded equipment like skates, sticks, pads and helmets easily recognizable on these star players whenever they're on the ice.
Wonder if that means for once, they will have authentic goalie helmets with permission from the designers.
Any word on how long you can play it before the game locks up on you with some irreversible bug?
Though I had an issue with 2K6 on my 360 after the Spring 06' update, I have never had one issue with 2K7. I was surprised as **** about it. I anticipated it so I Gamefly'd it, and kept it for over a month without one freeze. So I bought it. Still rocking.
The 2k series more realistic game play always made up for it's so so graphics for me. Ever since NHL 94, 95...EA's game play blows!!!
I was all about 2k until last year. EA's product was s**t until 07, while 2k pretty much stayed the same every year. NHL 07 could have handled a little better, but it was MUCH prettier, and the skill stick is far, far, far, far, far better than what 2k offers. Going from NHL 07 to NHL 2k7 feels like going from a "next gen" system (360) to "current gen" (Xbox).
Sounds like EA is taking another step forward with 08 in regards to the animation and the defense.

It looks like its gonna be a tough call again this year. The 2K series has been my favorite for the last few years in terms of realism and less bugs. The 2K6 did lock up after a while, but i never had the problem on 2k7.
I do pine for the '07 graphics every time is see the screen shots, but I hear that the AI still leaves much to be desired and the goalies still give up the soft goals from strange places still as well.
I will have to wait and read the reviews as release day comes closer.
"Also for the first time, EA has acquired the AHL license, including all 29 AHL teams. Players will be able to play develop talent through the AHL, and call up their prospects to play in the big leagues."
08 that is...

Just do what I do every year. Get the game pass for a month then rent each of them. Then buy the best one. If they both suck well at least u still have the other 29 days to rent any other game.

EA
+ has always looks beautiful and been innovative (control stick, etc)
+jaw dropping graphics and detailed faces
- often a massively buggy product (will they EVER be able to fix the goaltending bugs??????)
- almost responsible for the death of my gaming systems from the rage it has caused, yet it looks so damn good doing it
2K
+ more realistic feel and gameplay
+ great AI (d is tough and so are the goalies)
- not as pretty to look at
+ stable and few bugs
- physical teams > finesse (does Brian Burke play this?) There should be a balance
